Keeping Cool When it's HOT
Temperatures in Riverside County can jump to over 100 degrees during this time of the year. Desert areas face even higher temperatures. It’s during these times of extreme heat when children are most vulnerable and prone to heat stress. To help avoid heat-related illnesses and injuries, parents and caregivers can follow precautions from health experts.Summer's Last Splash
A FREE event especially for families with children through age 5 on Sept. 1 at the Y (4020 Jefferson St. in Riverside) including free parent/child swim lessons, family activities, water safety demonstrations, CPR information and more on how to be water safe throughout the year. Studies show that between 10 to 15% of women with children experiencepostpartum depression. For teenage mothers the rate is about 26% and for women living in poverty the number can be as high as 35%. To help increase awareness and resources for families, the Inland Empire Perinatal Mental Health Collaborative was formed. It recently developed a support group for Riverside County residents at a WIC clinic in Rubidoux. Get the facts, symptoms and other information provided in a recent presentation to the Commission.
