Nuview Superintendent Named to Children & Families Commission
The Riverside County Board of Supervisors approved the appointment of Dr. Jay Hoffman, Superintendent of the Nuview Union School District, to the Riverside County Children & Families Commission - also known as First 5 Riverside - during their weekly meeting June 5.

First 5 Riverside Develops, Advances School Readiness Outreach Program
for Leading Ladies in African American Churches
First 5 Riverside hosted an expanded training and information sharing workshop for Leading Ladies of African American Churches in Riverside County on Friday May 11. The program, known as the Leading Ladies for School Readiness focuses on improving life long opportunities for California's youngest African Americans.

First 5 Riverside Provides A Spanish language Kit For New Parents
First 5 Riverside joined with First 5 California today to announce the launch of the updated Spanish language Kit for New Parents, a free, comprehensive parenting resource that includes everything from practical advice on prenatal care to information on a child’s first years. With more than 24,500 babies born in Riverside County each year, the free kit, valued at $75, will help local parents prepare for their new child.

Early Identification of Special Needs and Disabilities
Improves A Child’s Quality of Life
More than 67,000 children ages 0 to 5 in California have been diagnosed with special needs and disabilities. Many more children live with undiagnosed disabilities, hindering their ability to play and learn. Early diagnosis and provision of supportive services can help improve the quality of life for these children.

First 5 Riverside Joins Faith Community in Outreach Seminars
BANNING, CA - First 5 Riverside and Praise Tabernacle Community Church will host two seminars - one on healthcare and one on childcare - Saturday Feb. 3, 2007 from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM. The seminars are open to all expectant parents, new parents, their family, friends, and caregivers. Refreshments will be served. Interested participants should contact the church office at 951-849-3491 to register for the sessions.
