Much of the work of First 5 Riverside is accomplished through the collective work of our funded partners. The programs listed in this section are currently receiving funding and/or support to implement activities that support children, ages 0 through 5, and their families in Riverside County.

Bermuda Dunes Learning Center


Quality early care and support services for children, 0 through age 5, with special health, developmental, or social emotional needs.

First 5 Initiative

First 5 Riverside funds early learning scholarships for low-income children to attend quality rated licensed child care centers and family child care homes. Local Dental Pilot Project – Inland Empire (LDPP-IE)


First 5 Riverside and First 5 San Bernardino are working in partnership to facilitate this California Department of Health Care Services dental initiative and support the implementation in community health centers, early care and education centers, schools, and home visitors. The project introduces innovative strategies to ensure that children enrolled in Medi-Cal receive preventive services, risk assessments, and continuing care.

Primary Care Pediatric Residency

In partnership with the University of California, Riverside-School of Medicine, First 5 Riverside is addressing the critical gap in pediatric care capacity in Riverside County. Through this funding, UCR has created a prevention-based pediatric residency, research, and loan-to-scholarship programs to encourage students to train and stay as primary care pediatricians in Riverside County.

First 5 Initiative

Quality Start Riverside County supports early care and education programs so they can provide high quality early learning experiences to children from birth through age five. The Stipend Program aligns efforts with the state-funded staff retention program and allows equal opportunities for teachers and early learning educators at either child care centers or family child care homes to access stipend reimbursement for tuition.

Supported by First 5 Riverside, the Consortium for Early Learning Services coordinates and manages early learning trainings for teachers and administrators participating in Quality Start Riverside County. Local training opportunities support early childhood education teachers on a career path as an early care and education professional, increasing the quality of curriculum, teacher-child engagement and enhanced teaching practices in the early learning field.

Strengthening Families – Five Protective Factors

Systems and Networks

Strengthening Families™ is a research-informed approach to increase family strengths, enhance child development and reduce the likelihood of child abuse and neglect. It is based on engaging families, programs and communities in building five protective factors: Parental resilience, Social connections, Knowledge of parenting and child development, Concrete support in times of need, Social and emotional competence of children. First 5 Riverside strives to help strengthen families by working with this framework to embed the five protective factors in the programs and services we support.
