First 5 Riverside hosted a presentation on the Early Development Instrument (EDI) by Dr. Lisa Stanley from the UCLA Center for Healthier Children, Families and Communities; and Kimberly Goll and Tiffany Alva, both from the Children & Families Commission of Orange County (CFCOC).

The purpose of this presentation was to provide an overview of the EDI, a population-based measure of early child development and school readiness in five key domains:  physical health, social competence, emotional maturity, language and cognitive skills, and communications skills and general knowledge.

The overview also included a description of the EDI, how data is collected, how it has been implemented nationally, and how communities are using the data.  Specifically, staff from CFCOC presented on their experience in rolling out EDI countywide, utilization of EDI data as well as lessons learned and goals for EDI in the future.
